Fresh off winning three state track and field titles late last month, Mountlake Terrace High School junior Chinne Okoronkwo took her leaping skills to Cuba over the weekend where she earned strong finishes in two events at the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational.
Among some of the elite prep track and field athletes of the United States, Cuba and elsewhere, Okoronkwo finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 39-04.75 and seventh in the long jump with a leap of 18-01.75.
Okoronkwo was part of large contingent of high school juniors from across the US selected to compete at the international invitational meet in Havana.
Okoronkwo will get little time to rest following her trip to the Caribbean as the junior will next be heading to Greensboro, NC., to compete in the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Meet at North Carolina A&T University June 19-21.
