Work at the site of a long-planned senior living apartment complex in the 5400 block of 244th Street SW in Mountlake Terrace has finally begun as tractors and backhoes began clearing the vacant lot of brush and debris this week.

The new 106,683 square-foot Mountlake Senior Living Apartments are now scheduled to open in the spring of 2016. The project is made up of a four-story building facing 244th Street SW and a second five-story building on the north-side of the 37,500 square-foot lot with a combined total of 96 residential units.

The apartment complex will be managed by the Senior Housing Assistance Group (SHAG), a non-profit organization that already operates 28 housing communities for residents 62 years of age and old (55-years-old if disabled) from Olympia to Bellingham.

SHAG had hoped to break ground on the Mountlake Terrace project two years ago, but delayed the start of construction while financing for the venture was finalized.

A leasing office with information about the Mountlake Senior Living Apartments is expected to be set up at the site this fall. SHAG is compiling a list of prospective tenants for the new complex at their main Discovery Center office, 3642-33rd Avenue South, Suite C-4, in Seattle; contact them for more information at 888-450-SHAG (888-450-7434).
