Work has begun on one of two new bridges over McAleer Creek at the Nile Shriners Golf Course in Mountlake Terrace. The 30-foot structure and a smaller bridge to be built a little downstream will replace a roadway and a golf cart path that currently bridge the creek.

The bridges and accompanying culverts will allow for a “freer flow” of water through McAleer Creek, helping to ellivate some season flooding of the creek and Lake Ballinger, city officials claim.

New West Construction of Everett is building the structures at a cost to the city of just over $880,000. Due to state Department of Fish and Wildlife rules governing work in creeks and streams, the contractor only has until the end of September to finish the project.
