Woman who crashed van in custody after Lynnwood victim dies

A 42-year-old Snohomish County woman is in custody as a suspect in the vehicular homicide death of a 72-year-old man who was killed when the van he was driving was struck at the intersection of 44th Avenue West and 212th Street Southwest on the Lynnwood / Mountlake Terrace border around 8 p.m. Friday night. The woman was being held at the Lynnwood Jail Saturday morning waiting transfer to the Snohomish County Jail in Everett.

The woman is being described by Lynnwood police as a convicted felon with two misdemeanor warrants out for her arrest. She was believed to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident.

The 72-year-old victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following the incident but succumbed to his critical injuries about two hours later. The female suspect was transported to Swedish Edmonds Hospital where she was treated and released into the custody of Lynnwood police.

A male passenger in the van that the suspect was driving was also transported to Harborview Medical Center with what was described as “serious injuries.” He is a 55-year-old Snohomish County man with a felony warrant, said Shannon Sessions of the Lynnwood Police Department.

The female suspect and her passenger were seen by a Lynnwood police officer near 200th Street Southwest and Highway 99 around 8 p.m. Friday night. When the officer attempted to stop them, the female driver sped away eastbound on 196th Street Southwest. A two-mile high-speed pursuit ensued that then ended with the collision between the suspect’s van and the van the 72-year-old male was driving.
