An MLTnews reader sent us this tip about a window salesman who suspiciously was looking in her mailbox:
Thought you might want to put this out as a tip for all in MLT to be leery of the door to door window sales people… I had a guy come to my door today, not knowing I was in my living room… I heard him open and close my mailbox and then looked out the window and saw a man walking away from my front porch. When he saw me see him through the window he appeared to be very startled. I opened my window and talked to him through it – he seemed jittery but tried to feed me a line about wondering if we were interested in replacing our windows…. when I said we were renters he took off pretty fast. I went to see what he put in my mailbox and there was nothing there. I then became worried that he was just going door to door looking for things to steal from mailboxes. Remember, just over 2 weeks ago we had over 10 cars broken into in our neighborhood and they were after ID Theft stuff. So, I did call and report it but thought it might be nice to see a reminder to residents to be careful with their mail as well as with people dealing with people that come to their door.
I’ve had a couple of window salesman come by my house in the last few weeks as well, often in the evening. While I didn’t noticed anything especially suspicious about any of them, they do seem pretty pushy about coming out and giving me an estimate, but that’s just business.
While this isn’t reason to call the police as soon as you see a window salesman, its is a good reminder to be on the lookup for suspicious behavior and don’t hesitate to notify the police if you do.
thanks for the info.
