‘We the People’ protest scheduled for July 4 in Mountlake Terrace

Mountlake Terrace-based Democracy in Action is hosting a “We the People” protest from 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, July 4 at the corner of 236th Street Southwest and 56th Avenue West in Mountlake Terrace.

Organizers invite you to “Come spend part of 4th of July exercising your right to peaceful protest and free speech.”

  1. Just curious as to how your free speech has been thwarted and why you need to protest. I believe the former administration and the last 4 years was telling since anything you said and believed, the liberal side would call you haters and nazi’s. Not exactly sure how that pans out to free speech!!

    1. Good question, thanks for asking. Free speech isn’t the point; it’s just the way we’re making our voices heard.

      We’re protesting because we see a real threat to democracy taking shape. There are people in power who are openly planning to use the federal government to punish opponents, silence dissent, roll back civil rights, and target already vulnerable communities. That’s not speculation. They’re saying it out loud.

      We’re not waiting for things to get worse. We’re standing up now, while we still have the freedom to speak, gather, and push back. Protest has always been part of how Americans say, “This isn’t who we are,” and try to chart a different path.

      This is about protecting the country we believe in, one where power is limited, rights are respected, and no one is above the law.
