As weather warms up and spring break continues this week, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office offers a water safety warning to residents.

Event though it is warm outside, rivers and lakes in Snohomish County are still cold. Also, after strong winter storms and floods, there may be new snags, strong currents or sudden drop-offs that were not there last spring.

With that in mind, the sheriff’s office offers these safety tips:

  • Keep close watch of children in the water at all times
  • Wear a life jacket
  • Do not swim alone
  • Know your limits and abilities
