The Mountlake Terrace High School girls volleyball team heads into Wesco League play on Tuesday sporting a three-game winning streak, but to qualify for postseason play it will be their effort in October, not September, that will determine their fate.
Only the top seven Wesco 3A teams are guaranteed spots in the District 1 3A Volleyball Tournament that begins Nov. 5, with district seeding based upon the final standings of the Wesco conference. Each Wesco 3A team will face each other just once in league play, all in the span of 30 days in October.
For the Hawks, the month-long push for tournament qualification begins on Tuesday, Oct. 1, on the road against the Marysville-Getchell Chargers; first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Terrace will take on the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks the next night, Wednesday, Oct. 2, at home beginning at 7 p.m.
The Wesco League home opener for the Hawks on Wednesday will be broadcast live on the Sound Live Sports Network beginning with the pre-game show at 6:50 p.m. Broadcasters Steve Willits and Vince DeMiero will be calling the action from Mountlake Terrace High School.
In Hawk sports action on Monday, the boys tennis team broke a four-match losing streak with a 4-3 win over Everett. Terrace picked up the Wesco League victory with strong singles play, winning three of the four singles matches.
The Hawks will take Tuesday off, then travel to Stanwood on Wednesday, Oct. 2, to face the Spartans at 3:30 p.m.; the next home match is set for Thursday, Oct. 3, against Oak Harbor beginning at 3:30 p.m.
