The Mountlake Terrace Hawks boys soccer team put together their best defensive effort of the season Tuesday. Unfortunately they couldn’t turn it into a victory.
The Hawks earned their first shutout of the season but had to settle for a 0-0 draw in their non-conference matchup with the Marysville-Getchell Chargers Tuesday at Lynnwood High School. Terrace is 0-1-3 and still looking for their first win of the year.
The Hawks will face another winless club in their next match when they take on the Everett Seagulls (0-2-2) Friday, March 25, at Edmonds Stadium. First kick is set for 7:30 p.m.
In other MTHS action on Tuesday, the softball team lifted their early-season record to 2-0 with a 9-5 victory over the visiting Kamiak Knights. The Hawks overcame eight errors by pounding out 11 hits, eight of which went for extra bases. Sophomore Sammy Ruiz led the hit parade by going 4-for-4 with three home runs, a double, five RBI’s and scoring four runs. Gabby Calhoun went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts. Julia Brocksmith added a home run and Amaya Kaupp a double in the Terrace win.
The baseball team didn’t fare as well, losing the first game of a three-game series with Lynnwood 5-3 at Lynnwood High School. The series moves to Mountlake Terrace High School for game two on Wednesday, March 23. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
