Vehicle Prowl Prevention

In light of the recent string of vehicle prowls in Mountlake Terrace, the Police Department has some practical tips on how to avoid being a victim:

Theft from vehicles is unfortunately very common, but usually preventable.Common parking areas, like apartment communities and shopping centers are prime targets for vehicle prowls, but they also happen on the street or in a driveway if an opportunity presents itself.

Besides items or documents being stolen, substantial damage can be done to your vehicle if it is prowled. Insurance companies generally will only pay for the damage done to your vehicle, not replacement of the items lost.  Homeowners insurance may cover some items, but usually not things like iPods or laptops.
