Van fire closes 244th Saturday night

According to a witness, a van caught fire in a driveway near 244th St SW and 52nd Ave W Saturday evening.

UPDATE 5/16 3PM:

Leslie Hynes from Fire District 1 tells us that the fire was intentionally set and arson charges are pending against a juvenile suspect:

On May 14 at 7:50 p.m., a van fire was reported at a home in the 5100 block of 244th St. SW. Because the van was so close to the house, dispatchers quickly upgraded the call to a house fire response and send additional firefighters and apparatus. The occupants, two women and two children, safely exited the home. The van was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. They had the fire under control in about 10 minutes. The fire destroyed the van, scorched the siding of the house, broke a nearby window and burned curtains inside the house. Damage to the van and house is estimated at nearly $10,000. Fire investigators have determined the fire was intentionally set and arson charges are pending against a juvenile suspect.
