Here’s an update on the car that crashed into a yard at 48th Avenue West and 218th Place Southwest Friday morning. According to Mountlake Terrace Assistant Police Chief Pete Caw, both the driver and passenger are South Snohomish County teens who had been drinking prior to the crash. The teens were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Caw said.
The driver was traveling at least 70-75 miles per hour on 48th Avenue West when he lost control of the car and skidded over 150 feet, crashing through a fence in one yard and ending up in the yard of a second residence.
Given the busy street and the fact that the incident occurred around 6 a.m. as people were leaving for work, “It’s amazing that nobody got killed,” Caw said Saturday.
The driver will be charged with DUI and reckless driving. Both young men were returned to very unhappy parents, Caw said: The car belonged to the driver’s mother.
