UPDATE: Flying Metal Sheet Came From Dishwasher

There were two unnswered questions about the mystery sheet of metal that fell from the sky and hit a MLT home earlier this month: 1) What was it and 2) Where did it come from?

One of those questions has apparently been solved.

The Herald reports that after their story about the mystery metal ran on Tuesday, several readers said it appeared to be the reversible front panel from a dishwasher.

When two employees at Appliance Recycling Outlet in Snohomish saw photos of the object, they agreed:

Kevin Eggan, a dishwasher technician at the business, also recognized it instantly.

Whirlpool and Kenmore are two brands that use the panels in at least some of their dishwashers.

Wilson provided a panel for comparison purposes. When taken to Paine Field and set next to the object that hit the house, it perfectly matched.

The question is how the panel got into the air. Test throws showed it does not get high into the air easily and has a tendency to dive.[/box]
