The deadline for those wanting to be considered for the vacant Position No. 5 on the Mountlake Terrace City Council is still five weeks away, but two candidates have already told MLTnews.com that they will definitely apply.
Christina O’Brien and Ann Nygaard were both in attendance at the July 2 meeting where city council members set the dates in which applications for the open position would be accepted, and both indicated that they will apply. O’Brien currently sits on the city’s Library Board while Nygaard serves on the Arts Advisory Commission.
Both O’Brien and Nygaard have run, and lost, in elections for city council positions — O’Brien in 2011 and Nygaard in 2009. “This will be my last shot,” Nygaard said.
Others who have indicated they may apply for the vacant council position include half-dozen current city board and commission members, a private business owner and one former council member.
Applications for those wishing to be considered for the post will be accepted by the City Clerk’s office beginning Monday, July 23, through Monday, Aug. 13. For more information about the application process, contact the City Clerk at cityhall@ci.mlt.wa.us or 425-744-6206.
