A new traffic light is going to be installed on 44th Ave W. The new traffic signal at 214th Street SW and 44th Avenue W will be midway between the existing traffic signals on 44th Avenue located at 212th Street SW and at the entrance to the Mountlake Terrace High School (217th Street SW).
This section of 44th Avenue W is a critical corridor that must accommodate much of the northbound and southbound traffic on the east side of the city along with the traffic entering and exiting the high school. The new signal will increase safety at the intersection and reduce the delay motorists on 214th Street SW experience when trying to enter onto 44th Avenue W. To promote a smooth flow of traffic, these three closely spaced signals will be interconnected and their timing synchronized.
City Council consideration of awarding the construction contract is scheduled for its regular meeting on October 4. Construction of the new traffic signal will begin in late October. It is scheduled to be operating before the end of the year.
