Trader Joe’s issued a recall of hummus Thursday over concerns of a possible listeria contamination.

Symptoms of listeria infection include fever, muscle aches and sometimes nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance or convulsions can occur.

All potentially affected products have been removed from store shelves and destroyed. However, some may have already been purchased.

To clarify, products with plant identification code “J” were produced in a different facility and are not affected by this recall. In addition, Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Hummus Snack Pack with Pita Chips (SKU #97136) is not part of this recall.

If you purchased any of the Mediterranean Hummus or White Bean and Basil Hummus with the specified plant identification and date codes, you are urged not to eat it. Trader Joe’s encourages customers to discard the product, or return it to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

If you have any questions, you may call Trader Joe’s Customer Relations at 626-599-3817 (Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time) or send the company an email.

There are two Trader Joe’s locations nearby. The one in Lynnwood is located at 19500 Highway 99. The one in Shoreline is located at 1201 North 175th Street.
