After years of planning, fundraising and building, Puget Sound’s Romanian Orthodox community will have a new home to gather and worship as the Three Heirarchs Church in Mountlake Terrace opens this weekend.
The 18,104 square-foot church and cultural center, located at 6402 226th Street SW, will hold its first service — an Evensong service of prayers and psalms — on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m. On Sunday, Nov. 1, the church will conduct a Matins morning prayer service at 8:30 a.m. followed by its Hierarchical Divine Liturgy service at 9:30 a.m.
Founded in 1994, the parish has grown to hundreds of families as they conducted services at locations around the Seattle area. The parish bought the 3.07 acre lot in the Melody Hill neighborhood of Mountlake Terrace in 2004 with the hope of building a home of their own at the site. Construction of the two-story church building began in June 2010.
In addition to space for 400 to worship, the church includes almost 14,000 square feet for Romanian cultural events, banquets and events.
The site includes parking for more than 100 vehicles.
