Three Hawks headed to state track championships next weekend

Three Hawks have qualified for the WIAA State Track Championships May 24-26 after their performances at the district meet Friday in Oak Harbor. Going to state are junior Beau Kennedy, senior Nina Penner and freshman McKenna Hunt.

Kennedy qualified by winning the javelin competition at districts with a toss of 163 feet, 8 inches. Penner finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.82, putting her into the state meet. Hunt is heading to state following her second-place finish in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.99.

The state meet takes place at Mount Tahoma High School, 4634 S. 74th St. in Tacoma. Events begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, and at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday, May 25 and 26. Tickets prices are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors over 62 and students with ASB card on Thursday; $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and students with ASB card on Friday and Saturday; $18 for adults, $14 for seniors and students with ASB card for all three days.
