The new Mountlake Terrace Shopping Center, featuring stone walls and a flat roof

Recognize these buildings? If you spend any time in the Town Center neighborhood you will probably recognize one of them. If you’ve been around for a while, you may recognize the other as well.

Built in 1951, this building now houses Northern Lights, a lighting and sound store. The photo was taken in 1951 from across 232nd St. SW.

The exterior of Mountlake Terrace Supply Inc.'s one story building has been faced with stone. Large windows allow a view into the store and the variety of materials sold.

The MLT arson fires in the early 90’s destroyed the building in the second photo, the former Mountlake Terrace Shopping Center. It was rebuilt in 1992 and is now a half empty strip mall. It contains Double D’s, Prime Pizza and Queen’s Cleaners. In 1955, several more buildings were constructed that today contain Yen Ching Restaurant and the Post Office. In 1976 the gas station (Shell) was built and in 1993, the espresso stand (Espresso Break).  The remainder of the “superblock” (as city council members call it) contains Calvary Fellowship (built in 1963), Mountlake Plaza (1989) and Cousin’s Hair Design (1967).
