Terrace Teacher Running for State Representative


Mountlake Terrace High School teacher Vince Demeiro announced early this week that he will be running for 1st district state representative as a Democrat.

Demiero, a 33-year resident of the 1st Legislative District, has an impressive background in education. He is the president of the Washington Journalism Education Association, is a board member of the Journalism Education Association’s Scholastic Press Rights Commission and serves as the Washington state JEA director. Demiero also served as the teacher leader of The Discovery School, one of five small schools within Mountlake Terrace High School (MTHS) under grants from the Gates Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education. Vince has been named the WJEA Adviser of the Year (1995 & 2006) and the Edmonds School District Educator of the Year.

Additionally, during his time as advisor for Mountlake Terrace High School’s student newspaper, the Hawkeye, the paper and student staff have won many awards. Demiero also teacher photography, English and film at MTHS.

A tentative date for a campaign launch party is Saturday, May 22. We’ll let you know when more details are released.
