The undefeated Meadowdale Mavericks were too much for Mountlake Terrace as they beat the Hawks 7-0 in boys tennis on Wednesday at Mountlake Terrace High School.
Terrace not only failed to win a single match in the Wesco 3A South Conference match-up, but prevailed in only 18 of 85 games against the powerful Mavericks.
Freshman Jeremy Ansdell got his first opportunity to play singles this season on Wednesday — the newcomer had been paired in doubles play for the Hawks first three outings of the year. The combination of a tough opponent in Maverick Bret Matysik and a slightly injured left wrist led to a 6-1, 6-0 defeat for Ansdell.
“Jeremy is a good player,” coach Alberto Ramirez stated. “He just needs to build a little confidence out there.”
The match was the first of four in a row the Hawks face against conference foes. “It’s a tough stretch, facing Meadowdale, then Glacier Peak, Shorewood and Shorecrest,” Ramirez said. Terrace will take on the Grizzlies next at home on Monday, Sept. 23, with first serves scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
