More than 270 parents, local officials, business owners, community volunteers, candidates for office and just plain folks came together Thursday morning at the Lynnwood Convention Center for the tenth annual Transforming Lives Breakfast to both celebrate and show support for Clothes for Kids.
Clothes for Kids has been transforming the lives of young people since 1984 by giving articles of clothing from overcoats to underwear to the kids of families in need free of charge. They do this in a retail store environment, where kids and teens can pick out their own clothes with their families. The only thing that is missing from the store is a cash register.
“Our vision is to empower students for success, one wardrobe at a time,” said Clothes for Kids Executive Director Joy Ingram. “We do this because supporting the students and future leaders of our community is the right thing to do.”
While final numbers are yet to be determined, according to Ingram this year’s Transforming Lives Breakfast raised more than $50,000. “We’re still counting, and I’m hoping we reach $60,000,” she added.
