Marcus Lee Banek, 28, is scheduled to be arraigned on two felony counts on Monday, June 18, in Snohomish County Superior Court in Everett. Banek is being charged with one count of unlawful firearm possession and one count of theft stemming from his involvement in a “drug deal gone bad” in southeast Mountlake Terrace in May.
Banek is alleged to have possessed a 9 mm handgun and stolen more than $7,000 in cash from a resident in the 4500 block of 241st Street Southwest on May 23.
According to police records, the resident was allegedly trying to buy prescription drugs from Banek, but tried to recant on the deal, claiming the drugs “didn’t look real.” Banek and the resident got into an altercation, first pointing handguns at each other, then scuffling. The two ended up with each other’s guns, with the father of the resident entering the room brandishing a pistol of this own.
Banek escaped the home with the resident’s handgun and the money. He was eventually taken into custody by police after a 90- minute manhunt. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail and has been there since, unable to post his $100,000 bail.
Prosecutors charged Banek with unlawful firearm possession because he is a convicted felon on active custody status, prohibited from purchasing or possessing any firearm or deadly weapon.
No charges have been filed against the resident, her father, or an accomplice who was with Banek.
In other court news, Christopher Michael Dailey, 29, faces his next court date on Thursday, June 21, for a felony residential burglary charge. Dailey was arrested May 21 after he allegedly burglarized a home in the 22900 block of 32nd Avenue West in Brier. His trial is scheduled to begin in Snohomish County Superior Court Friday, July 6.
In another case, a 15-year-old Mountlake Terrace juvenile is scheduled to face a residential burglary charge in Snohomish County Superior Court, Juvenile Division, on Tuesday, July 3. He allegedly broke into a home on the 4400 block of 237th Place Southwest in Mountlake Terrace May 3.
