If you aren’t up to date on water at the dog park issue, read this.
You have two opportunities in the next week to support MLT DOG, the group behind the dog park near the pool, and their efforts to get running water at the dog park.
Since our last update, the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee met on August 11 and has approved MLT DOG’s request to have a water meter installed at the dog park. MLT DOG is busy raising the necessary funds to pay for the installation of the water meter and service. It is expected this will cost around $4,000 and MLT DOG is just over halfway there after the recent yard sale and some other fundraisers. Head to their website if you would like to contribute.
This Thursday, September 3rd, the City Council meets for their work session. A 6-month report on the dog park will be given by Ken Courtmanch, Parks and Facilities Superintendent and Don Sarcletti, Recreation and Parks Director. The water meter project will also be discussed. The report will include basic information – project description and scope of work; project costs including labor, materials, equipment and permits; project budget and estimated time line; letter from MLTDOG regarding funding contribution and/or volunteer service to be provided.
Tuesday, September 8th is the regular City Council meeting. It is here the Council will vote on the capital improvement project. This is probably where MLT DOG could use the most support. The meeting starts at 7 pm and it would be great if a lot of people showed up in support of MLT DOG. The interim City Hall is located at 6100 219th Street SW, Suite 200. If you can’t make it to the meeting, consider emailing City Council at cityhall@ci.mlt.wa.us and letting them know that you support this project.
After the meeting we’ll report back on MLTnews.com and let you know how the vote went.
