The Mountlake Terrace High School student robotics team, 1778 Chill Out, will get their first chance this season to test their design and building skills at the large robot district competition this week at Mount Vernon High School, 314 N. 9th Street in Mount Vernon.
Competition in Aerial Assault, the FIRST FRC game for this year, begins Friday, March 14, following opening ceremonies scheduled for 1:50 p.m. Competition will continue all afternoon, then resume again on Saturday, March 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Dozens of high school robotics teams are expected to attend the Mount Vernon competition. “Hopefully, if we do well, we would move onto the PNW district championship in Portland,” said MTHS robotics team advisor Dan Lafferty.
The 1778 Chill Out team will get another chance to qualify for the district championship at a competition scheduled for Shorewood High School on March 21-22. All competition events are free for spectators to attend.
