A 17-year-old at Mountlake Terrace High School was arrested on Friday, Jan. 8, by Mountlake Terrace police for sexually assaulting a female student.

The alleged attack occurred after school on-campus in a lower level hallway on Thursday, Jan. 7.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 13, the male suspect had yet to be formally charged in Snohomish County Juvenile Court, but was “emergency expelled” from Mountlake Terrace High School after his arrest.

In a letter briefly posted on the school’s website and e-mailed to MTHS students and parents, Principal Greg Schwab called the incident “a very serious matter.”

“I want to emphasize and assure you that at no time was there a general threat to student safety,” Schwab wrote in the letter.

“The safety of all our students and staff is our priority and we are reviewing the supervision measures we have in place during after-school activities,” the letter continued.

Schwab came forward with the information of the alleged attack after receiving permission from the victim’s family to do so. The family reports that “the female student is recovering.”

Schwab said that both he and the school’s counseling staff are available for students and parents wishing to discuss any questions concerning the incident.
