State tournament update: Bouche, Liu to play for fifth in tennis doubles Saturday


After losing their first match of the day, Mountlake Terrace doubles team Nicki Bouche and Tina Liu strung together two wins-in-a-row at the WIAA 3A Girls Tennis Championships on Friday and will now play for fifth place in the doubles tournament Saturday morning.

Bouche and Liu will face the team of Caroline Dillion and Caroline Hamilton of Mercer Island at 8:30 a.m. at Kamiakin High School in Kennewick; winners will claim fifth in state while the losers go home with an eighth place finish.

Bouche, a sophomore, and Liu, a freshman, started Friday with a lost to Kayla Zillbauer and Camille Clare of Enumclaw 6-4, 6-4. Bouche and Liu then picked up their first victory of the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Amanda and Katie Lacayo of West Seattle.

Bouche and Liu finished Friday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Chritina Wolf and Rachel Rich of Wesco league rival Stanwood.
