Starting Oct. 15, it will cost more to license your pet in MLT

New pet license fees in Mountlake Terrace go into effect on Oct. 15 following action taken by the city council last week. All license fees will increase some; to recover a pet taken to the animal shelter will now cost owners at least $145.

The new rates will help recoup the cost of the contract the city signed with Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) of Lynnwood to provide animal shelter services for Mountlake Terrace.

The annual cost of a license for a neutered or spayed dog or cat goes from $15 to $15.50; seniors 65 or older qualify for a reduced license rate of $8.50. Licenses for unaltered dogs or cats rises from $30 to $31.

To license a horse, pig or goat in the city of Mountlake Terrace will cost owners $15.50, up from $15.

License fees will also be adjusted up annually, beginning in 2013, if there is an increase in the rate of inflation in the Puget Sound area.

  1. This is so stupid. What A great Idea raise the rates on everyone but the council who lives in other cities. Also raise the rate to SAVE an animal. People will take their business elsewhere and now more animals will die. Thanks alot. Way to pad your pocketbook. I know who Im voting for next year. Not for the Red Onion
