State Sen. Derek Stanford (D-Bothell), who represents part of Mountlake Terrace in the 1st Legislative District, has been chosen to be the vice chair of the Senate Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee. He was also appointed to serve on the Senate Labor & Commerce Committee and the Senate Environment, Energy & Technology Committee.
“These committees handle issues that are important for the 1st Legislative District and also crucial to the future of our state,” said Stanford. “I’m looking forward to our work making higher education more accessible, protecting our workers, and promoting a vibrant, carbon-free economy.”
Stanford was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and was re-elected four times since. In the House, he chaired the Commerce & Gaming Committee and served on the Appropriations Committee and Consumer Protection & Business Committee. Following the resignation of State Sen. Guy Palumbo, Stanford on July 1 was unanimously appointed by the King and Snohomish County Councils to serve as state senator for the 1st Legislative District.
Stanford’s committee assignments will be formalized in a vote of the full Senate on the first day of the 2020 legislative session.
