This summer Sound Transit plans on hosting a number of information booths and drop-in sessions, including a couple in Mountlake Terrace, that are intended to inform the public about light rail coming to South Snohomish County.
Sound Transit staff will be at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300-58th Ave. W., on June 26, 11 a.m. — 2 p.m., to answer questions and provide information about the coming Lynnwood Link Extension. Sound Transit is also planning on manning a booth at Tour de Terrace in late July.
The agency is exploring two route options for light rail through Mountlake Terrace along the I-5 corridor, in addition to station options at the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center and, possibly, at 220th Street Southwest and I-5. The Sound Transit Board of Directors is expected to make final decisions next year on a specific route for the light rail extension, location for the transit center station and if a station will be built at 220th Street.
Currently Sound Transit representatives are conducting noise monitoring, vibration testing, geotechnical drilling, wetland delineation and survey work in the public right-of-way and on private property with permission from property owners. Sound Transit staff will study, evaluate and document the information gathered in preparation for a Final Environmental Impact Statement on the light rail extension, to be published in early 2015.
Construction on the 8.5-mile, $1.2-$1.7 billion light rail line is expected to begin in 2018, with service from Northgate to Lynnwood beginning in 2023.
