Councilmember Laura Sonmore was voted in again as Mountlake Terrace Mayor Pro Tem by fellow council members at their work/study session Thursday night. Sonmore has served the position each year since 2008.
The Mountlake Terrace City Council votes for one of its members to serve a one-year term in the position each January. The Mayor Pro Tem chairs the council and serves in honorary mayoral duties when the Mayor is unable to do so.
Sonmore was originally appointed to the city council in 2000, and has won re-election to the post in 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2011. The MTHS graduate is currently the longest-serving member of the council.
Jerry Smith continues to serve as Mountlake Terrace Mayor; he is entering his second year of his current two-year term in the position. Smith has been mayor since 2004.
