Softball: Hawks overwhelm Granite Falls 8-0 in season opener

Showing no mercy in their first outing of the year, the Mountlake Terrace High School softball team crushed the 2A Granite Falls Tigers on Monday, 8-0, in the 2014 opener for both teams.

The Hawks pounded out 13 hits to just five for the Tigers in a game played at Granite Falls. Terrace senior Maddy Kristjanson led the hit parade by going 3-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Hannah Baisch also went 3-4 with a double in the victory.

Dannica West was the only bright spot for the Tigers as she went 3-3 from the plate.

Hawk Ashley Fitzgerald picked up the pitching win in her first outing with Terrace. Gabby Calhoun pitched in relief for the Hawks and kept Granite Falls (0-1) scoreless during the final two innings.

MTHS (1-0) will take on Lynnwood on Tuesday, Mar. 18, at Mountlake Terrace High School; first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
