Snohomish County PUD recently earned the Smart Energy Provider (SEP) designation from the American Public Power Association  for demonstrating commitment and proficiency in energy efficiency, distributed generation, and environmental initiatives that support a goal of providing low-cost quality, safe and reliable electric service.

“We take a lot of pride in the work our Energy Services teams perform developing programs to meet our customers’ needs,” said Pam Baley, PUD’s AGM of Customer and Energy Services. “It’s encouraging to be recognized as a best-of-breed utility when it comes to helping them save money and reduce our collective footprint in the environment.”

The SEP designation, which lasts two years, is given to public power utilities that demonstrate leadership in four key disciplines: smart energy program structure; energy efficiency and distributed energy programs; environmental and sustainability initiatives; and customer experience.

Utilities are rated on a scale of 100 points. The PUD earned 84 points, scoring high on offering distributed generation programs like community solar, working to support environmental sustainability programs like Carbon Solutions and providing customers with robust conservation programs.
