An Open House was held April 26 on the shoreline management plan being updated for the Lake Ballinger shoreline within Mountlake Terrace.
Under state shoreline laws, the city must update its plan for the 200’ edge around Lake Ballinger situated within the city’s boundaries by the end of 2011. The open house was a first big step in the public process. About 20 people attended and were encouraged to ask questions and make suggestions on the future of the shoreline. Large displays of maps and other information lined the Council Chambers where the Open House took place.
After the Open House, the Planning Commission and public heard a presentation on the work that has been done, including analysis of the different uses and types of shoreline at Lake Ballinger. The City Council will also review the shoreline planning work at its May 3 meeting.
More information will be developed over the next several months and posted on a city webpage at cityofmlt.com/shorelineplanning.
