The Mountlake Terrace boys baseball team beat Shorecrest 13-8 in a crucial Wesco 3A game Friday afternoon in Shoreline. The win enabled the Hawks to retain a share of second place with just two games remaining in the regular season.

The Hawks exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate and taking advantage of multiple errors by the Scots. Junior Quintin Bernard had two hits in the inning, leading off with a double and later driving in two runs with a sharply-hit single.

Shorecrest committed two throwing errors in the inning, while the Scot pitchers gave up one walk, one wild pitch, and one hit batter to add to the defensive meltdown.

Mountlake Terrace was behind 6-3 after three innings, then scored two runs in the fifth from a two-run single by Senior Henry Havemen, seven runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh for the come-from-behind victory.

Senior Josh Finch came in to pitch the final two innings, giving up just two runs to the potent Scot offense to preserve the win for the Hawks.

Terrace finishes the regular season with back-to-back games against the Lynnwood Royals next week, playing on the road on Monday, April 30, at 3:30 p.m., then at home on Tuesday, May 1, at 4 p.m.
