Seven MLT students finalists in ‘Letters About Literature’ competition

Seven local Mountlake Terrace students are state finalists in the Washington State Library’s “Letters About Literature” competition.

Contest finalists from Mountlake Terrace High School are Cassandra Cariker, Blake Christianson, British Fort, Rachel Olson, Lillian Simpson and Sydella Yonker. Carina Ly, a student at Terrace Park School, is also a state finalist in the competition.

Letters About Literature encourages students in grades 4-10 to read a book, then write a letter to the book’s author describing how it changed their view of the world. The contest is broken down into three levels: grades 4-6, grades 7-8 and grades 9-10; with one Washington state letter from each level entered into a national competition.

The state contest judges for this year include librarians, authors and state officials. This is the eighth year the Washington State Library has offered the competition to young readers.
