Setting Off Fireworks in MLT? Be Prepared to Be Fined

As a reminder to the community for the upcoming Independence Day holiday, it is unlawful for any person to sell, possess, use, transfer, discharge or ignite any fireworks within the City of Mountlake Terrace.

Violations will result in confiscation of fireworks and fines.

  1. I also would like to add that our currant Mayor Pro Tem voted to ban the use of fireworks on our Nations birthday.  But I can promise this, that I would vote in favor of the use of fireworks on our Nations birthday, unlike my opponent.  That is why I am running against her this upcoming election.  My name is Christina O’Brien and I am looking forward to representing all of you wonderful citizens of MLT.

    1. While the anti-ban people may be more in force on FB and here, I haven’t been able to find them in the community, and I think you’ll find that the majority of MLT citizens are in favor of the ban and even STRICTER fines.  Over the last 2 years I have spoken to DOZENS of people regarding the ban and have actually only met, face to face, one resident who was adamantly opposed to the ban.  All others wanted stricter enforcement of the law.

I for one support the ban.

  2. Dear Christina,
We are excited to hear that a canidate is running on the statement “I plan to bring integrity, honesty, and a sense of trust in representing the citizens of Mountlake Terrace” !
Please tell us if you think the current Code Enforcement Dept. conducts operations in a manner that will bring about integrity, honesty, and a sense of trust in representing the citizens of Mountlake Terrace.
Please read the code enforcement story and related citizen comments in the police blotter section entitled : Mountlake Terrace Police Blotter: Robberies at Homestreet Bank and Studio Six Motel

    Thank You !

    1. Dear Guest,

I had a chance to read the stories as well as all of the comments. It is disheartening that our own civil employees will act in such a manner. And it does tend to start from the top official that created that position unfortunately. When I’m on the Council I will hold everyone responsible starting with the other Councilmembers down to our City Employees.  The Code Enforcement Department has to treat every situation equally and not what they choose to enforce.  As for the funding of the new Civic Center that the city had at the time and ended up not working out as they planned. I will not only bring integrity, honesty, and a sense of trust I will also bring back transparency to the City Council so that all of you will know what is happening in regards to any changes for the city.

  3. Thank You to the City of Brier for hosting all us displaced Mountlake Terrace Residents and our fireworks tonight.  My hope is  that all those that used Brier park to set off their fireworks were responsible and cleaned up their mess.

  4. Hey Dustin – can we get a report on police activity for the 4th?  There were fireworks going off all over my neighborhood, which is only 2 blocks from the police station.

  5. Realy?  Fireworks confiscated and fines given out?  It sounded like a war zone around here!  Where were the police from 10pm til midnight, when all the fireworks were going off on 55th between 232nd and 234th?  If fireworks are against the law, I expect the “law” to be more vigilant.

    1. Hey girlfriend, is this you?  We went to Brier to set ours off as I did not want to pay the city anything more than we have too.  I agree with you though.
