Library staff at Mountlake Terrace and Brier are preparing for a busy September as they expect an increase in the number of library visitors during the month due to the closure of the Lynnwood Library for remodeling.
The Lynnwood Library is scheduled to be closed Sept. 6-29 so crews can paint the interior, lay new carpet, update the restrooms and build work and study areas that will house new computers and audio/video editing equipment. “We do expect that this (closure) will increase traffic at all surrounding libraries,” said Mountlake Terrace Managing Librarian Chy Ross.
“It is hard to predict what the specific impact will be here in Mountlake Terrace,” Ross said. “My best guess is that we will see a markedly noticeable increase in visitors and use of all library services.”
The Mountlake Terrace Library will have additional staff scheduled at times during the Lynnwood Library closure to help with the increase in demand.
Marlene Moodie, Managing Librarian at the Brier Library, is already seeing some new visitors to her library ahead of the Lynnwood remodeling. “We’ve had several Lynnwood customers ‘discover’ the Brier Library in anticipation of the closure,” she said. While Moodie expects to have a busier September, she is confident the Brier Library can handle the increase without additional staff.
Sno-Isle Libraries will be operating a bookmobile in the Lynnwood Library parking lot during the library’s closure for holds scheduled to be pickup up at Lynnwood, but the bookmobile will not accept any returns. Library administrators are suggesting patrons use the Mountlake Terrace, Brier and Mukilteo Libraries to return library materials.
