Current World Junior Ice Dance Champions, Jean-Luc Baker and Kaitlin Hawayek, placed fourth overall in their Senior debut in the ISU Grand Prix of figure skating series last week in Oberstdorf, Germany.
Baker, a lifetime honorary member of the Seattle Skating Club in Mountlake Terrace, and Hawayek will skate in two more competitions on the Senior International Grand Prix circuit. They will be competing in the Rostelecom Cup in Moscow Russia from November 14-16 then again in the NHK trophy in Osaka Japan from November 28-30.
Baker, 21, from Mukilteo and Kaitlin Hawayek, 17, from East Aurora, NY recently captured the title of World Junior Ice Dance Champions at the World Championships in Sofia Bulgaria earlier this year.
Baker, a graduate of Kamiak High School, moved to Michigan to train the day after his graduation in June 2012. Prior to that date he was coached at Olympicview Ice Arena in Mountlake Terrace by his parents, Sharon and Stephen Baker, who were both National Champions for Great Britain; his mother also competed in the ice dance event at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary.
