The 2015 Seattle Mariners Caravan rolls into Lynnwood on Jan. 23 with pitcher James Paxton, catcher Mike Zunino,Mariners Hall of Famer Dan Wilson, broadcaster Dave Sims and the Mariner Moose.
A free public autograph session is set from 5:15-6:15 p.m. at The Seattle Mariners Team Store, Alderwood Mall, Lynnwood
Although he spent most of 2014 on the disabled list, pitcher James Paxton made 13 starts in August and September. Paxton went 6-4 with a 3.04 ERA. In one stretch from Aug 20 to Sept. 22, he faced 144 consecutive batters without allowing an extra-base hit.
Catcher Mike Zunino set a Mariners record for home runs by a catcher in 2014 with 22, breaking the record of 19 set by Miguel OIivo in 2011. The 22 homers was tied for third in the Majors behind Cincinnati’s catcher Devin Mesoraco and the Yankees Brain McCann. Zunino caught in 130 games last season, his first full season in the Majors. He also made one start as a Designated Hitter.
Former catcher Dan Wilson was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame in 2012 with battery-mate Randy Johnson. Wilson, one of the best defensive catchers in Major League Baseball history, still ranks among the Top 10 in a bevy of Mariners offensive categories. Wilson works with Mariners minor league prospects as a Roving Catching Coordinator. He also spends time in the broadcast booth during the season.
Dave Sims is beginning his ninth season with the Mariners broadcast team. The versatile Sims has national experience calling baseball, basketball and football. Sims teams with former Mariners third baseman Mike Blowers on the Mariners television broadcasts on ROOT SPORTS.
