An Edmonds School District employee who championed a longstanding grassroots effort to feed students will be honored by the School Board during its Tuesday, Sept. 23 meeting.
Leanne Brisbois did more than schedule students buses; she worked tirelessly to ensure District students in transitional housing or homeless were being fed. Fed on rides to and from school and provided with easy to prepare items to eat over the weekend. Word spread.
Community groups and individuals rallied to collect food items and Brisbois worked tirelessly to get the items bagged, organized and delivered. Now the program will turn into a network in which the District will partner with the Foundation for the Edmonds School District and other community groups.
“Leanne’s dedication to students success beyond the scope of what her job required should be acknowledged and applauded,’ said Karena Hooks, coordinator of the District’s Department for Diversity, Equity and Outreach. “Without her vision, the idea of supporting this essential aspect of student learning would not be in a position to grow and expand.”
The School Board of Directors will recognize Leanne Brisbois during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. during the portion of the meeting called “Board Celebrations.”
