The Mountlake Terrace High School Sports Booster Club released its May edition of Athlete Highlights, a poster highlighting two Terrace student athletes now on display in local businesses and community centers. This month’s spotlighted athletes are senior Tina Liu and junior Sam Polevoy.

“Tina has been a pivotal part of the tennis team for the last four years,” said Terrace girls tennis Coach Alberto Ramirez. “As a player, as well as a leader, Tina has always demonstrated leadership, respect for other players, as well as care and compassion. She is a great young lady ever willing to help and to provide a good tennis tip to other teammates, always helping the tennis staff to demonstrate drills to the less experienced players.”

Ramirez also noted Liu’s win-loss record during her time competing for the Hawks. “Tina played at no. 2-singles (her) first three years; she has the best winning record at that position of any other player in my ten years as a coach at Mountlake Terrace, and perhaps the best record ever of any tennis player at Terrace,” he explained.

Liu went undefeated during her sophomore and junior years in the no. 2-singles position; she has only three losses this year in the no. 1-singles spot.

Polevoy, a center back on the Hawk boys soccer team, was selected for the honor of appearing on the Athlete Highlights poster by Coach George Dremousis. “Sam is a very likable young man and very positive and coachable,” Dremousis said. “A true leader on the pitch, he plays the game correctly and is the anchor of the back line.”

Polevoy and his Hawk teammates begin play in the District 1 3A Boys Soccer Tournament this Saturday in an opening round match against Edmonds-Woodway at 5:30 p.m. at Edmonds Stadium. This is the second year in a row the soccer team has qualified for the postseason district tourney.
