An original rock opera composed by a local parish music director is returning to the stage after a more than 30-year absence with the goal of not just entertaining but encouraging area theater goers.

In His Hands, a Christian rock opera written by Susan Olmos, Music Director at Edmonds’ Holy Rosary Church, will be performed May 13-15 at the Mountlake Terrace High School Theater. Tickets are $20 and $25, and are available at the Holy Rosary Parish Center, 760 Aloha Street in Edmonds, or at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2512447.

The production, made up of 30 on-stage performers and a 23-piece orchestra, tells the story of Jesus Christ through the recollections of Peter the Apostle. The cast is led by Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and Seattle news journalist Brian Callanan; the orchestra includes Grammy Award-winning percussionist Matthew Burgess, who has worked with such acclaimed musicians as Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jewel, Anne Wilson and Brandi Carlile.

After debuting In His Hands at Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1984, Olmos is excited to bring the show back to life in 2016.

“Our first production thirty years ago was a profound experience that changed many futures and careers,” she said. “My hope, after all these years, is that resurrecting this production will resonate with Christians and non-Christians alike and create inquire, discussion and, most of all, hope.”

Proceeds from the four Mountlake Terrace performances will benefit Washington Kids in Transition, a south Snohomish County non-profit that works to benefit the lives of homeless children.
