Riley Morgan takes fifth in state at 3A girls swimming championship

Mountlake Terrace High School senior Riley Morgan improved on her showing from last year, placing fifth in the 50 meter freestyle at the 2012 WIAA 3A Girls State Swimming Championships Saturday in Federal Way. Morgan finished the event finals with a time of 24.54, a new MTHS school record; the 50 meter freestyle title was won by junior Anna Keane of Meadowdale with of time of 23.36.

Morgan had placed seventh in the same event at last year’s state championships.

Hawk girls swim team coach Doug Kenoyer was pleased with the effort of his top top swimmer. “State was a very fast meet this year,” he said. “I am very happy about Riley’s performance.”

Morgan also competed in the 100 meter butterfly, finishing 18th with a time of 1:00.53. Sabrina Kwan, a freshman from Mercer Island, won the event with a time of 55.85.

Mercer Island won the 3A team competition, blowing away the rest of the field with 193 points. Lakeside (Seattle) finished second with 96 points; Hanford place third with 54 points. Morgan’s finish in the 50 meter Freestyle earned Mountlake Terrace 14 points and a placing of 22nd in the team competition.
