The smiles, as well as the burgers, have been plentiful at Red Onion Burgers this weekend as the restaurant reopened after an October fire shut down their previous location.

Owners Seaun and LeRae Richards held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with members of their staff and Mountlake Terrace Mayor Jerry Smith on Saturday. The event was the high point in a week of activities at the restaurant.

On Wednesday, about 200 people came to a pre-opening to try samples from the Red Onion menu. “We had so many show up we just started handing out burgers,” Seaun Richards said.

The restaurant had another 150 customers on their official first day at their new location at 212th Street Southwest and 44th Avenue West on Thursday, Richards said. He estimates an additional 200 customers came through the doors on Friday.

“Our new hours go to 9:00 at this place, and we had to start throwing people out then,” Richards said of Friday’s crowd.

And how are Richards and his staff feeling about the response to the reopening of the restaurant? “We’re pretty stoked about it,” he replied.
