Volunteers with Washington Kids in Transition invites members of the community to join in a community packing party to benefit local homeless students.
At the end of the 2015-2016 school year, the Edmonds School District had 624 homeless students. During the packing party, volunteers will load up bags of food to be distributed to the McKinney Vento after school bus program.
The party begins at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 on the lower level of Edmonds Methodist Church, located at 828 Caspers St. in Edmonds. Washington Kids in Transition will provide a pizza dinner for volunteers, but volunteers are asked to bring some food items to donate. The items most in need are:
- Granola bars (no peanuts please!)
- Crackers and cheese
- Fruit squeeze pouches (The pouches are easier to pack)
- Beef sticks
- Tuna or chicken packs
- Individual cereal packs
- Shelf-stable milk
