Reminder: Free Plant Exchange and Garden Event in MLT Saturday

indexelement51The Mountlake Terrace Business Association will host a free Plant Exchange and Garden Event on Saturday, April 30.

During the event, there will be educational talks on building a garden starting at 11 a.m. Attendees will learn how to start a garden, grow plants in pots, as well as how to grow microgreens and medicinal plants.

There will also be a Kids’ Corner, where children will be able to plant a seed and take it home to start their own garden.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lot next to Espresso Break on the corner of 232nd Street Southwest and 56th Avenue West in Mountlake Terrace. It is free and open to the public.

  1. I dropped by this event on Saturday around noon – a bit of a disappointment. I really was excited about it – I have been starting plants from seeds for a couple of years and was interested to see what others were doing.

While there was indeed a kids table with some action the only other thing there was a table of mostly divided plants and some snapdragons. Many things weren’t labeled so wasn’t really sure what they were.

I did bring some dahlias and sugar pie pumpkin starts and take some snapdragon bedding plants in exchange.I never saw anyone who seemed to be involved with the event itself.

This is a great opportunity for community building. I no longer own a business but for 13 years I did own a retail shop in Seattle. Maybe I could be an honorary member of the MLTBA for a short time next year to help plan and work on this event?

I do thank the MLTBA for doing this – and either way I will be there next year.
