Reminder: Ballinger Park Master Plan to be presented at Community Meeting on Tuesday

MLT parks recAfter reviewing input from several community meetings, the preferred Ballinger Park Master Plan will be presented on Tuesday, July 14.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting that will take place beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Ballinger Clubhouse, 23000 Lakeview Drive in Mountlake Terrace.

Residents reviewed three plans and viewed a presentation by the Berger Partnership outlining each feature at the last meeting in June. “These plans were used to facilitate discussion to and select the most popular elements to lead to a preferred plan,” said Recreation and Parks Director Jeff Betz. “Elements included pathways, a fishing pier, floating dock, viewing tower, boardwalks, gathering lawn, potential playgrounds and dog park. Also taken into account were environmental concerns such as the flow of the creek and the plant life of the park.”

At the first meeting, over 75 interested people attended to help shape the future of Ballinger Park. The 42-acre property was previously used as a municipal golf course and was converted to a passive park when golf course operators stepped away in 2012.

The purpose of the Ballinger Park Master Plan is to create a clear and concise set of goals, policies and objectives that will provide direction to the city for future development, redevelopment and enhancement opportunities of the park.

Next steps include continued public outreach, enhancement of the preferred plan, identification of capital needs and funding strategies.
