Next weekend, hundreds of feet will pound the pavement to raise money for kids. On the morning of Saturday, July 23 the Mountlake Terrace (MLT) 5K Fun Run/Walk will be returning as a community event and fundraiser for Mountlake Terrace public elementary schools.
This year, the event is scheduled for the weekend before the Tour de Terrace.
The Mountlake Terrace 5K Fun Run/Walk will start at Mountlake Terrace High School with the route winding through the town’s scenic roads and parks. Participants will make their way over to Terrace Creek Park, and continue part way through it. The run will then return to the high school. The route is on city sidewalks or on a paved path that is jogger and stroller friendly.
This 5K will be a timed event for those runners who are testing their skills or wish to enjoy a bit of competition. There will be awards at the end of the race, as well as a raffle of prizes and a chance to meet local vendors who have helped to sponsor the race.
Proceeds raised will go to support student enrichment at public elementary schools in Mountlake Terrace. Organized by the Cedar Way Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), the funds raised will benefit Cedar Way Elementary students and will be used by the organization to fund programs such as field trips, school events and additional supplies for art, music and library programs. Participants can also designate another nearby public elementary school, such as Terrace Park or Mountlake Terrace Elementary, to receive part of the registration dollars.
Last year’s event raised over $8,000.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Mountlake Terrace High School. The entry fee is $25 for an adult, $20 for youth if purchased ahead of time, or $30 for an adult, $25 for youth purchased the day of the race. Register by clicking here.
