Registrations are now being accepted for the 2nd annual Mountlake Terrace 5K Fun Run/Walk scheduled for Saturday, July 27, at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $25 for adults, $20 for students age 6-17; proceeds from the event go to the three public elementary schools in the city.

The MLT 5K Fun Run/Walk, staged by the Cedar Way Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization, is part of the Tour de Terrace festival that takes place in Mountlake Terrace the last weekend in July.

“We’re happy to once again be part of Tour de Terrace and offer a healthy community event,” said Molly Luna, Cedar Way PTO president. “We saw a great turnout in our first year and found that hosting the 5K was a wonderful way to encourage our kids to stay active over the summer.”

“We also had the added benefit of raising money that we used to fund educational activities,” Luna stated. “We raised approximately $5,000 that went back to local public schools. We hope to continue our success this year by hosting this great fundraiser as an annual community event.”

Fun run/walk participants can designate to which local elementary school (Mountlake Terrace, Cedar Way, or Terrace Park) a portion of their registration fee goes to benefit.

The fun run/walk will start at Mountlake Terrace High School and wind through some of the city’s scenic roads and parks. Participants will make their way to Terrace Creek Park before returning to the high school. The route is on city sidewalks and paved pathways that are jogger-stroller friendly.

The 5K will be a timed event for those runners who are testing their skills or wish to take part in a bit of competition. Awards and raffle prizes will be presented at the end of the event.
